Haplochromis venustus (Nimbochromis venustus) is one of the most popular freshwater ornamental fish species. It originates from Lake Malawi in Africa. This uniquely patterned fish can produce 50 to 120 externally fertilized eggs. Later, the female will lay the eggs and incubate them in her mouth for 21 days. Even after hatching, the young fish will remain in the female's skin for 10 days before being released.
